Shady woods, blooming meadows, calm lakes, low mountains, and wonderful views on the routes between Eckernförde and Kiel will make any cyclist’s heart beat faster. Whether you’re on your own bicycle or you’ve rented one, cycling becomes a pleasure, far from the busy streets in the Dänischer Wohld, by the coast, and in the Hütten Hills.

Long-distance cycle paths

Whether it’s dream ships on the Kiel Canal (NOK route) or blooming fields of heather in August by the Ochsenweg route, the area is uniquely diverse. Schleswig-Holstein offers numerous long-distance cycle routes, including some which go beyond state borders. The Baltic Sea coastal cycle path travels through Eckernförde, and there are many other cycle paths which are not far away.

Baltic Sea coastal cycle path

Well-known and well-loved: You really should try the Baltic Sea coastal cycle path! It begins near Flensburg, almost at the Danish border and continues to Lübeck-Travemünde. It extends over a total of 267 miles and leads past various highlights, including castles, museums, and of course various Baltic Sea beaches.

Kiel Canal route

A special way to sightsee: 202 miles along the Kiel Canal (from Brunsbüttel to Kiel) and through the charmingly scenic backcountry of the international maritime shipping route. Side by side with freighters and dream yachts.

Ochsenweg route

The Ochsenweg route begins in Wedel (to the northwest of Hamburg) and travels across 152 miles to the Danish border. From that point, it continues under the name “Haerveien” for approx. 130 miles through Denmark and ends in Viborg.

Wikinger-Friesen-Weg route

The Wikinger-Friesen-Weg route runs from St. Peter-Ording by the North Sea to Maasholm on the Baltic Sea. Follow the path of the Vikings and ride through water meadows and idyllic villages straight through Schleswig-Holstein.
